Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can begin by reaching out through my contact page or via email (drgorokhovsky@gmail.com) to schedule a free consultation. The consult call is an opportunity to hear what you’re looking for and answer any questions you may have. If you decide to move forward, we can discuss paperwork and scheduling the intake session.

  • I provide individual therapy across all ages, including adults, adolescents, and kids. I also offer parenting support.
Much of my work with clients focuses on addressing anxiety, mood concerns, relationship patterns, life transitions, and the ongoing impact of traumatic or difficult past experiences.

  • Some of the challenges I commonly work with include:

    • Anxiety and chronic worry

    • Depressive moods

    • Emotional regulation difficulties

    • Trauma and stress-related concerns

    • Relationship and attachment patterns

    • Life transitions

    • Burnout and perfectionism

  • Yes. I offer telehealth sessions for clients located in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, and Vermont, where I am licensed.

I also offer a limited number of in-person sessions in Downtown Brooklyn (26 Court Street). Availability is limited; please reach out to inquire.

  • In your first session (the “intake evaluation”), we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy now, your history, your past therapy experiences, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. I will ask questions to better understand your experiences and may offer initial impressions or recommendations. You will also have an opportunity to ask me questions.

For child and adolescent clients, the intake process involves two separate meetings: one with caregivers and one with the child themselves.

  • Sessions are typically 45 minutes. Therapy most often begins with weekly sessions, which helps establish consistency and support ongoing work. More frequent sessions can be considered when appropriate. Frequency may shift over time as goals and needs change.

  • The typical length of therapy varies from one individual to another based on your goals or needs. Some people benefit from only a few months of sessions while others benefit from long-term consistent therapy support.

  • My standard session fee is $300. I offer a limited sliding scale for clients who may need it, and I’m always happy to discuss options or answer questions during a consultation.

Payment is required at the time of each session

  • I am an out-of-network provider for most insurance plans and you will have access to a superbill (a receipt you can submit for out of network benefits). Please check with your insurance company to check what your out of network coverage is like.

I am also an in-network provider with Aetna (NY, NJ, MA only). I have a limited number of specific time-slots available for clients using insurance. Please reach out anytime to ask questions or check availability.

  • If you’re planning to use out-of-network benefits, it’s helpful to call your insurance company directly and ask a few specific questions. You can let them know you’ll be seeing a licensed psychologist and provide the following CPT (billing) codes for the types of service you’ll receive:

    • 90791 – Initial diagnostic evaluation

    • 90834 – Ongoing 45-minute psychotherapy sessions (typically weekly)

When you call, you may want to ask:

    • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

    • What is my out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?

    • What percentage of each session will be reimbursed?

    • Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered?

    • Do I need preauthorization?

Note: Out-of-network benefits are separate from in-network benefits. This means your out-of-network deductible and reimbursement rates are typically different from (and often higher than) your in-network costs.

Your insurance provider can give you the most accurate information about your specific plan and expected reimbursement.

  • A superbill is a detailed receipt for services that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.

I will provide superbills automatically through the client portal after the end of each month. Each superbill will include the number of sessions attended, dates of service, CPT (billing) codes, diagnostic codes, and all other information your insurance typically requires.

To request reimbursement, you can submit the superbill directly to your insurance company. This is often done through your insurance provider’s online portal.

I recommend submitting superbills on a monthly basis rather than waiting until the end of the year, as this can help reduce the likelihood of claim denials and allow you to receive reimbursement more consistently.

If you’re unsure how to submit, you can contact your insurance company and ask how to file an out-of-network claim using a superbill. Once submitted, reimbursement (if applicable) is sent directly to you by your insurance provider, and processing times can vary depending on your plan.

  • To allow for thoughtful scheduling and planning, the following cancellation policies apply:

    • Telehealth sessions: A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee.

    • In-person sessions: A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee.

Insurance does not cover missed or late-cancelled sessions. Clients using insurance will be responsible for the agreed upon fee for late cancellations or missed appointments. Late arrivals may result in a shortened session.

  • The "No Surprises" Act (effective January 1st, 2022) requires health care providers to provide current and new patients who are uninsured or self-pay with a "Good Faith Estimate" (GFE) of cost for treatment. This regulation attempts to provide patients with transparency regarding their health care costs. While therapy presents a unique circumstance for estimating costs due to variable factors (length of therapy, cancellations, etc.), Dr. Gorokhovsky can provide a GFE as needed.
